Crews work to get power to 3,187 homes in O.C.

As the heat wound down Wednesday, thousands of Southern California Edison customers in Orange County were still without power, with no estimates on when they would be able to turn on their lights.
By evening, 3,187 homes remained dark, and repair crews were working around the clock to restore service, Edison spokeswoman Lauren Bartlett said.
She attributed the outages to “the severe weather and continuous high demand on equipment.” In many instances, Bartlett said, people were keeping their air conditioners on overnight, causing transformers to overheat and fail.
As a result, she said, a small number of customers had been without power for more than 48 hours. All told, she said, 616,709 customers throughout Edison’s service areas have been affected.
“With temperatures going down,” Edison spokesman Paul Klein said, “we expect to make significant progress. We are not expecting any new outages, so the numbers should go down.”
