RE “How Maher Got Them to Testify,” by Patrick Goldstein, Aug. 8: Why do big, brave antireligionists like Bill Maher, Sacha Baron Cohen and Michael Moore have to ambush, lie and choose only the gullible to “interview” in order to make their point?

How would they fare in an honest face-off against real religion, say an Asian pastor in jail for his belief? An intellectual biologist who sees proof of God in nature? Or even the ordinary pastor, priest or rabbi of the congregation down the street?

Ridicule is the last resort of those who have no truth on their side. My guess is, these princes of the “edgy” haven’t the guts to confront sincere religion. They know how morally bankrupt their petty mockery would make them look.
