A Huntington Beach man died Monday afternoon after lifeguards pulled him unconscious from the ocean in Newport Beach.
Lifeguards swam to help Charles Jasmine, 52, in the waves about 25 yards offshore near B Street about 3:30 p.m., according to the Newport Beach Fire Department.
Rescuers pulled Jasmine ashore, where emergency responders attempted to treat him; paramedics then took him to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach in serious condition.
Jasmine was pronounced dead at 4:25 p.m., said Deputy Mitchell Sigal of the Orange County coroner’s office. Coroner’s officials are still performing an autopsy to determine the cause of death, Sigal said.
