Re “Fido can’t balance the budget,” Opinion, Dec. 8
Thank you for printing Jennifer Fearing’s Op-Ed article. A veterinary-services tax would only penalize those who are taking good care of their pets and create a disincentive for doing so.
It probably would create more burdens on an already taxed city shelter system by adding costs to shelters’ outside vet bills, robbing funds from other shelter programs and increasing the number of dumped animals at city shelters.
This is truly a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul, and everyone would lose.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger should look for places to cut fat from the state budget before penalizing responsible citizens for doing the right thing.
