Composed while Stalin’s ideological attack dog, Andrei Zhdanov, was denouncing him and other important Soviet composers, Shostakovich still managed to smuggle in a voice of tragic dissent in his Violin Concerto No. 1. Vadim Repin (pictured) will play the work with the Los Angeles Philharmonic led by James Conlon on a program that also includes music by Mussorgsky and Tchaikovsky. 8 p.m. Sat.; 2 p.m. Sun., Walt Disney Concert Hall. $40-$142. (323) 859-2000; www.laphil. com/tickets. (An 8 p.m. “Casual Friday” will feature the concerto and music by Mussorgsky only.)
