Turning on Iraq

Re “Power-starved Iraq goes solar,” July 14
Oh, if only the U.S. had thought it worthy to use solar in our own country instead of going to war in Iraq to secure our oil interests there. And how ironic that in oil-rich Iraq there is not enough energy to power that country’s streetlights, so it has to turn to solar.
Army Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Dorko is incorrect when he says the $6 million it would cost to build a one-megawatt solar plant is prohibitive: The United States spends more than that every hour to sustain its war there. Building solar power plants is the least we can do for Iraq and for the world.
