Power goes out in parts of the city

More than 16,000 households and businesses were left temporarily in the dark Saturday by a power outage in parts of Koreatown, Hollywood and Silver Lake, utility officials said.
There were also reports of some traffic lights going out in Koreatown.
The power failure was initially reported about 7 a.m. after a mechanical problem at an area distributing station, which then affected another station, said Joe Ramallo, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
The first outage left about 10,000 customers without power for just over an hour, Ramallo said.
All but 50 had been restored by early evening, and officials said they hoped to have all customers back on overnight.
The DWP serves 1.4 million customers in Los Angeles. Ramallo said that power outages occur “from time to time” and that Saturday’s outage “was mechanical.”
