Life’s just fine in Kern County

Re “Banned in Bakersfield,” Opinion, June 12
It is fun to watch The Times periodically and pompously pound on us bumpkins in Kern County. It is especially gratifying when one considers L.A.’s complicated quality of life. Why, just the weekend before last, the paper counted 14 murders.
Here in Kern County, life is quite dull. Rarely do the guys in the next vehicle shoot fellow drivers. The lackluster public schools still outdo the averages for the L.A. basin. Kern County pumps a good deal of oil and produces food that consumers the world over enjoy.
Gravitas may be missing from the likes of Buck Owens (may he rest in peace), but Angelenos can still find a decent coffee or Coors when they make their pit stops here in the summer.
We love you, L.A. Too bad about the Dodgers.
