A wildfire about 26 miles east of Santa Maria burned at least 10,000 acres of the Los Padres National Forest and was expected to grow, forest officials said Sunday.
The La Brea fire began about 2:50 p.m. Saturday in the San Rafael Wilderness area, said Forest Service spokesman Joe Pasinato. Firefighters did not know the cause. No structures were threatened, Pasinato said. Eight air tankers and four helicopters were battling the flames.
