All Eastern Michigan can do now is wait. The EMUs did their job -- losing to Akron, 21-28, to finish the season with a perfect 0-12 record.
But the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky (0-11) refuse to go away, no matter how much their fans would like them to.
Wacky WKU fell, 23-29, to 4-7 Florida Atlantic to run its losing streak to 19 games, longest in the nation. And WKU vaulted into a first-place tie with the EMUs.
The Bottom Ten title will be decided one way or another by Western Kentucky’s finale tonight against No. 16 Arkansas State (3-8). Arkansas State can lose to any team in America on a given Saturday, or Thursday.
Meanwhile, fired coach Charlie Weis of No. 11 Notre Dame gets a bum deal when critics say he beat no ranked teams this year. Actually, the Irish did knock off Washington State, which is ranked No. 3 -- in the Bottom Ten.

Flops of the year: No. 35 Oklahoma (7-5) slid 32 places in the Associated Press media poll since the start of the year. Georgia (7-5), 13th in AP’s preseason poll, isn’t even in the top 38 this week. Hard to believe, but Florida State (6-6) was actually No. 18 in the preseason rankings. No. 20 USC has fallen 16 places since its opener.
