A 4-year-old girl was killed when her bicycle-riding father was struck by a San Diego trolley in Chula Vista.
The girl was strapped in a child seat on the back of the bike but was not wearing a helmet, police said. Her 34-year-old father, whose name was not released, was taken to the hospital with possible internal injuries and a broken hip.
The incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The crossing signals were activated, and the gate had lowered. The father steered around the gate and attempted to cross, but his bike was struck by the trolley, police said.
Both victims were thrown about 40 feet in the incident. The girl was identified as Veronica Ramirez, who lived in Chula Vista.
