A suspected car thief was caught when he drove a stolen vehicle to pick up a man at a Denny’s restaurant where officers were eating.
Marcus Wilson, 26, of Simi Valley was booked at the Ventura County jail on suspicion of auto theft, Simi Valley police said Thursday.
On Tuesday, Wilson went to the Denny’s at 2460 Sycamore Drive, where two officers were finishing up a meal. The officers overheard a man talking on a phone, telling the caller to pick him up because he thought the two officers were watching him, officials said.
Officers followed the man but lost sight of him shortly after noticing the driver of a Toyota Sequoia looking for someone.
After checking the SUV’s license plate number, they learned it had been reported stolen in Los Angeles County and arrested Wilson.
