Not all certified pre-owned programs are created equal. While all of the programs offered by major automakers have similar components — like warranties, vehicle inspections and history reports — the details can vary considerably from one manufacturer to another. Here’s the lowdown on a dozen different CPO programs:

Audi

• Warranty six years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first) from original purchase date
• 300+ point inspection
• Vehicle must be 5 model years old or newer
• Odometer reading must be less than 60,000 miles
• $85 warranty deductible
• 24-hour roadside assistance for 72 months/100,000 miles
• Vehicle history report included
• Transferable warranty
• Extended warranty available

BMW

• Warranty 24 months or 50,000 miles (whichever comes first) plus balance of original four year/50,000-mile warranty
• 196 point inspection points
• Vehicle must be 5 model years old or newer
• Odometer reading must be less than 60,000 miles
• $50 warranty deductible
• 24-hour roadside assistance
• Vehicle history report included
• CPO protection plan fully transferable from the original CPO purchaser or lessee to subsequent owner(s) or lessee(s) with fee
• Extended warranty available

Chevrolet/GM

• Warranty 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first) from certified purchase date
• Powertrain warranty five years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first) from original in-service date
• 172 point inspection
• Vehicle must be 6 model years old or newer
• Odometer reading must be less than 75,000 miles
• $0 warranty deductible
• 24-hour roadside assistance for five years/100,000 miles
• Vehicle history report included
• CPO warranty is transferable to subsequent owners
• Extended warranty available

Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep

• Warranty three months or 3,000 miles (whichever comes first) or at the expiration of whatever remains on the three-year, 36-month basic new vehicle warranty
• Powertrain warranty seven years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first) from original in-service date for 2010 models or newer, or six years/80,000 miles (whichever comes first) from original in-service date for 2009 models or older
• 125 point inspection
• Vehicle must be 6 model years old or newer
• Odometer reading must be less than 75,000 miles
• $150 warranty deductible
• 24-hour roadside assistance
• Vehicle history report included
• Rental car allowance and 24-hour towing
• CPO warranty nontransferable
• Extended warranties available

Ford

• Warranty 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first) from certified purchase date
• Powertrain warranty seven years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first) from original in-service date
• 172 point inspection
• Vehicle must be 6 model years old or newer
• Odometer reading must be less than 75,000 miles
• $100 warranty deductible

Honda

• Warranty 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first) after expiration of original 36-month/36,000-mile new car warranty

• Vehicle must be 6 model years old or newer
• Odometer reading must be less than 80,000 miles

• 24-hour roadside assistance and trip interruption allowance

Porsche

• Warranty 24 months or 50,000 miles (whichever comes first) after new car six-year/100,000-mile warranty expires or from certified purchase date
• 111 point inspection
• Vehicle must be 9 model years old or newer
• Odometer reading must be less than 100,000 miles
• $0 warranty deductible
• 24-hour roadside assistance for the duration of the Porsche Approved Limited Warranty coverage
• Trip interruption expenses if more than 100 miles from home
• Transferable warranty
• No extended warranty available

Toyota

• Warranty 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first) from certified purchase date
• Powertrain warranty seven years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first) from original in-service date
• Hybrid battery warranty eight years/100,000 miles (whichever comes first) from original in-service date
• 160 point inspection (178 on hybrids)
• Vehicle must be 6 model years old or newer
• Odometer reading must be less than 85,000 miles

• 24-hour roadside assistance for one year
• Vehicle history report included

Volkswagen
