What $22 million buys: Malibu versus Washington, D.C.
In L.A.’s landlocked housing market, $22 million can buy a beachfront retreat in Malibu of nearly 2,200 square feet on roughly a quarter acre. But across the country, the mega-bucks pack a bigger punch.
Tying the top price spot in the current Washington, D.C., area housing market is the Neoclassical-style Fessenden House listed at $22 million.
By comparison, the most expensive home on the Los Angeles area Multiple Listing Service is priced at $195 million.
Inspired by the work of 18th century architects Robert and James Adams, whose English architecture incorporated a lighter and more refined Georgian design, the 20,000-square-foot Washington mansion sits on close to an acre of landscaped grounds. Terraces and a sweeping curved staircase overlook a swimming pool, a pool house and a loggia with views of acres of parkland.
Expansive formal rooms provide space for entertaining. There’s a wine cellar and tasting room. The seven bedrooms, nine full bathrooms and five partial bathrooms include a master suite, secondary bedrooms, a guest suite and staff quarters.
The four-level home has an elevator.
Long & Foster / Christie’s International Real Estate has the Washington listing.
