Filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow seeks $12.9 million for Beverly Hills Post Office area compound

Kathryn Bigelow, the Academy Award-winning director behind “Point Break” and “The Hurt Locker,” has put her contemporary compound in the Beverly Hills Post Office area on the market for $12.9 million. Alternatively, the place can be leased for $35,000 a month.

Two acres of landscaping bring life to the modern estate, which features heavy doses of concrete both inside and out.

Across two stories, expansive living spaces pair walls of glass with 16-foot beamed ceilings. A great room with a floor-to-ceiling fireplace anchors the open floor plan. Other highlights include a spacious dining area, a chef’s kitchen, an office and a media room.

The master suite adds a floor-to-ceiling fireplace of its own, as well as a lofted sitting room and a glass-filled bathroom with a sauna. One of four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, it opens directly outside through sliding glass doors.

Stone paths wind through the property, eventually reaching a patio with a swimming pool, spa and pool house. Canyon and city light views abound.

Bigelow, 67, bought the two-acre property in 1989 with her then-husband, filmmaker James Cameron, for $1.8 million, public records show. The house was built in 1996.

Bigelow, 67, was the first woman to win the Academy Award for best director for the war drama “The Hurt Locker.” The accomplished director, writer and producer also helmed such film projects as “Strange Days,” “Zero Dark Thirty” and “Detroit.”
