Bell says he didn’t consult a decorator. Why? “A decorator would come in here and go, ‘What in the world? We should do something more chic!’”

“I’ve collected a lot of this stuff over the years,” says Bell. “Some pieces I bought from Oceanic Arts in Whittier.”

The room is “a cool hang,” says Bell.

Bell grew up near Disneyland; his house doesn’t let him forget it.

Bell’s dad helped him with the bamboo and thatch work on the walls and ceiling.
