William Powell and Myrna Loy made a staggering 14 films together. Six of those were as the wealthy sophisticated married sleuths Nick and Nora Charles in MGM’s popular “The Thin Man” series based on the Dashiell Hammett mystery novel.
“The Thin Man,” which also starred Skippy as their whip-smart wire fox terrier, was a huge hit in 1934 and earned four Oscar nominations, including best film and lead actor. Powell and Loy made five more mystery comedies: 1936’s “After the Thin Man,” 1939’s “Another Thin Man,” 1941’s “Shadow of the Thin Man,” 1945’s “The Thin Man Goes Home,” and 1947’s “Song of the Thin Man.”
