FX orders pilot for Donald Glover comedy ‘Atlanta’

Donald Glover has been performing live a lot lately, thanks to his careers as the rapper Childish Gambino, but he hasn’t been on a regular TV series since leaving “Community” midway through Season 5. But if all goes well, he’ll be back soon, starring in “Atlanta.”
On Friday, FX announced it had ordered a pilot for the comedy project, which was created by and stars Glover as Earnest “Earn” Marks, a college dropout who is trying to rise through the ranks of Atlanta’s rap community when his estranged cousin becomes a star.
The pilot order comes on the heels of Glover’s first Grammy nominations for his work as Childish Gambino, getting nods for best rap album and rap performance.
Glover, who as a writer won a Writers Guild Award for “30 Rock” before being cast in “Community,” will be executive producer of the pilot along with Paul Simms, creator of “NewsRadio,” and Dianne McGunigle of Schiff Co.
Meanwhile, Glover’s old “Community” costars (minus Chevy Chase and Yvette Nicole Brown) will return for a sixth season of the series on Yahoo Screen sometime in 2015.
