The X-Files In this new episode, written and directed by series creator Chris Carter, Mulder and Scully (David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson) must get information from a bomber, comatose after an art-gallery attack, about any other targets. Lauren Ambrose and Robbie Amell guest star as another FBI team and “The Lone Gunmen” (Bruce Harwood, Tom Braidwood and Dean Haglund) return. 8 p.m. Fox
The Fosters Callie and Jude (Maia Mitchell, Hayden Byerly) enlist the help of a foster care advocate (Kelli Williams) after they discover Jack (Tanner Buchanan) is being abused in his group home in this new episode. 8 and 10 p.m. Freeform

Major Crimes The crime drama returns for its winter season with a single case that unfolds over the next five episodes. It begins when a woman and her 3-year-old boy are fatally shot. Mary McDonnell and Kearran Giovanni star. 9 p.m. TNT
Castle Castle and Beckett (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) become caught up in international intrigue when a Russian dignitary’s son is killed in the new episode. Ann Cusack guest stars. 10 p.m. ABC
Better Call Saul The prequel to “Breaking Bad” returns for a second season with Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks and Rhea Seehorn. 10 p.m. AMC
