‘Veep’ and ‘Silicon Valley’ both renewed by HBO

HBO’s comedy pairing of “Veep” and “Silicon Valley” will get another season next year. The cable channel announced Monday, the day after their latest season premieres, that the shows would be returning.
“Veep,” starring Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Vice President (and later President) Selina Meyer, will return for its fifth season next year. However, it will be the first season without series creator Armando Iannucci, who stepped down after Season 4. He’ll be replaced as show runner by “Curb Your Enthusiasm” executive producer David Mandel.
“Silicon Valley” will return for a third season. The satire of the tech industry has faced criticism for its lack of notable female characters, and added Suzanne Cryer to the cast in its new season, replacing Christopher Evan Welch, who died while filming the first season.
Show runners Mike Judge and Alec Berg will return, along with the rest of the ensemble cast, including Thomas Middleditch, T.J. Miller, Martin Starr and Kumail Nanjiani.
Both comedies will get 10-episode seasons. They currently air immediately after HBO’s massive hit, “Game of Thrones.”
“Game of Thrones” has already been renewed for a sixth season.
