Here’s a selection of Central Coast Grenaches to seek out in your local retail shop. A few select shops — Wally’s Wine & Spirits, Woodland Hills Wine Co. and Twenty Twenty Wine Merchants, in particular — have some of the rarer and pricier Grenache bottlings as well, such as Alban, Sine Qua Non and Saxum.

2007 Tablas Creek Vineyard “Cotes de Tablas” (Paso Robles) — A blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre, it has a scent of red berries and a fresh, juicy red-cherry flavor, with firm acidity. 2007 Tablas Creek Vineyard “Esprit de Beaucastel” (Paso Robles) — Tablas’ tête de cuvee, a blend of Mourvedre, Grenache, Syrah, and Counoise, has a deep core of meaty Mourvedre aromas with a bright red-fruit adornment of Grenache. 2008 Beckmen Vineyards Grenache “Estate” (Santa Ynez Valley) — Bright and lifted, like cherry liqueur with a mild note of black tea. The flavors are all red fruits, a mild peppery grip to the finish. 2007 Beckmen Vineyards Grenache “Purisima Vineyard” (Santa Ynez Valley) — With another year of age and almost 20% Syrah, this is a very different wine than the ’08 “Estate,” with darker black-cherry aromas and hints of bacon fat and smoke. The palate flavors are deeper and longer, the tannins sleek and fine-grained. About $50 at K&L Wine Merchants, Hollywood; Wades Wines in Westlake Village; and select Whole Foods Markets.

2007 Harrison Clarke Wine Grenache (Santa Ynez Valley) — A fairly smoky bottling (that may be the Syrah, at 8%). Has nice depth and flavors of ripe cherries, and a nice peppery cut of acidity. About $15 at the Wine House in West Los Angeles, (310) 479-3731, https://www.winehouse.com.

2007 Hermann Story Wines Grenache “On the Road” (Santa Barbara County) — Mostly from Larner Vineyard in the Ballard Canyon, this is a heady wine with plenty of ripe raspberry flavor and a bottom note of brown spice — a product of 30% whole-cluster fermentation. 2007 Jaffurs Wine Cellars Grenache “Larner Vineyard” (Santa Ynez Valley) — The addition of stems gives this wine’s bright raspberry aromas a tinge of bergamot tea. 2007 Stolpman Vineyards Grenache (Santa Ynez Valley) — Smoky, dark and gripping, this wine has a scent of plums and tilled soil.
