Newsletter: Great Reads: A vacation note (and a dream of fall foliage)
Hey there, I'm Kari Howard, and I edit the Great Reads (a.k.a. Column Ones) for the Los Angeles Times.
"I’m going to be away for three weeks catching the fall foliage in the Maine countryside.
I know of an Adirondack chair on a hill that has a sweeping view of a forest below. If you sit there on consecutive days watching the fall colors get more vibrant, it’s like a living time-lapse photo. The only thing lacking is a turntable to play something suitably autumnal. (Note to self: Buy another turntable.)
Oh, and I'll also be spending time at a used bookstore a few feet from the shore. It looks tiny, but there are 100,000 books inside. You have to squeeze by people, smiling because you know they all share a love of reading.
The Great Reads will continue in my absence, so please go to their homepage and check them out. The newsletter will resume Oct. 10.
As always, you can reach me at [email protected], or @karihow on Twitter (where I will be posting lots of fall scenery).
