Mark Gottfried, a former UCLA assistant who became the head coach at North Carolina State, Alabama and Murray State, is expected to be introduced as the men’s basketball coach at Cal State Northridge on Tuesday.
Jeff Goodman of ESPN first reported the Gottfried hiring.
And former UCLA coach Jim Harrick could be joining Gottfried.
Harrick said Monday: “I’m back in it,” but wouldn’t reveal specifics pending a Tuesday news conference.
Another former Harrick assistant, Lorenzo Romar, was named the Pepperdine coach on Monday.
“I think it’s fantastic,” Harrick said. “They’re both coming back to Southern California helping young people. They’re both gifted and talented guys.”
Gottfried and Romar were assistants for UCLA’s 1995 NCAA championship team under Harrick.
CSUN fired coach Reggie Theus and athletic director Brandon Martin last week.
