One person was killed and four people were injured Sunday after a vehicle flipped over on the southbound 5 Freeway near Castaic, then plummeted about 100 feet off the side of the road, authorities said.
Shortly before 2:30 p.m., a motorist reported seeing the vehicle roll over about five times before falling off the side of the roadway just north of Castaic Lake, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Three children and one adult were transported to nearby trauma centers, said Bernard Peters, a supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, Peters said.
The CHP closed the outermost lane of the southbound 5 as emergency personnel responded to the crash, and, at 2:45 p.m., issued a Sig Alert extending for about four hours.
