Dense fog causes temporary ground stop for some flights at LAX

Heavy fog and low visibility Wednesday morning prompted officials at Los Angeles International Airport to issue a temporary ground stop for many arriving flights.
Marshall Lowe, a spokesman for LAX, said the ground stop was mostly for smaller aircraft and said at least a couple of flights were diverted to nearby airports.
Lowe said visibility at one point was reported as being one-eighth of a mile.
LAX officials advised passengers to check with their airline for possible flight delays.
The National Weather Service had issued a dense fog advisory for the L.A. Basin until 9 a.m. And a low-pressure system moving into the region was expected to bring a slight chance of rain overnight Thursday into Friday.
