Traffic jammed as two lanes of 91 Freeway in Corona closed until Thursday

Two lanes of the westbound 91 Freeway in Corona will be closed until Thursday because of rain damage, Caltrans officials said, creating a chokepoint in the main route between Riverside and Orange counties.
Caltrans crews will repair one lane compromised by stormwater and inspect a second near Green River Road, said spokeswoman Eliza Echevarria.
The area was hard-hit by a Tuesday morning downpour that stretched from San Diego to Santa Barbara counties.
That stretch of the 91 Freeway is part of a larger construction project that will add regular, toll and auxiliary lanes for eight miles of road.
News video of the westbound lanes showed a massive traffic jam building before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. Commuters were encouraged to give themselves extra time to get to their destination or use alternative routes.
