Suspicious package in UCLA parking lot deemed harmless

The Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad responded to a suspicious package at UCLA on Wednesday but later determined it was harmless.
At about 5 a.m. an employee heading into work saw an abandoned, metal briefcase in a campus parking structure and called campus authorities.
“Everyone’s got heightened sensitivity and awareness because of the Boston incident,” said Jeff Young, UCLA police assistant chief. “And we encourage that. If you see something, say something.”
LAPD’s bomb squad got to the scene by 6 a.m and determined the briefcase was harmless.
The parking structure was closed and some building exits were briefly shut down, but by 8:30 a.m. everything was back to normal at UCLA.
