A man who was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Hawthorne allegedly drew a handgun during a spousal abuse call, police said Wednesday night.
Officers arrived at the scene in the 13900 block of Cerise Avenue shortly before 1 p.m. and were told by witnesses that a man had barricaded himself inside a storage room, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
The officers “established communication” with the man to take him into custody, according to sheriff’s officials. But the suspect “suddenly stepped out and produced a handgun.”
