Man dies in shooting in Florence-Firestone neighborhood

A 47-year-old man died after he was shot in an unincorporated neighborhood bordering South Los Angeles, law enforcement authorities said Thursday night.
The shooting was reported around 2:45 p.m. in the 8600 block of Maie Avenue in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Lt. Dave Coleman told The Times that witnesses heard gunshots and saw the victim lying on the sidewalk. The attacker ran away.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Since January 2007, at least 103 homicides have been reported in the neighborhood, according to The Times Homicide Report database. Fifty-nine of the victims died from gunshot wounds.
Florence-Firestone is the 13th deadliest of 270 neighborhoods in Los Angeles County, the homicide data shows.
