Naked man climbs on top of Metro bus in West Hollywood

A naked man scaled a Metro bus on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood on Thursday afternoon and stood there until deputies managed to rustle up a ladder to remove him.
The man, who was not immediately identified, was naked and walking down Sunset Boulevard before he climbed onto the orange Metro bus, authorities said. Using the bike rack on the front of the bus, the man managed to reach its roof.
He stood there as onlookers snapped photographs and television news helicopters swirled above wondering what his next move would be.
Finally, deputies found a ladder, climbed to the top of the bus and placed the man on a gurney, said Ramon Montenegro, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Transit Policing Division.
“Sometimes when people are on PCP and other hallucinogens, they get really hot and throw off all their clothes,” Montenegro said. “But in speaking to my deputies, they didn’t indicate anything like drug use. Other than being completely nude on top of the bus, there didn’t seem to be anything else going on.”
Deputies took the man to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on an involuntary psychiatric hold, he said.
Los Angeles officials are used to seeing some unusual things, but even Thursday’s strip-down was a new one.
“This is a first for me, and I’ve been here 32 years,” Metro spokesman Rick Jager said.
