Three people were killed early Sunday morning when their SUV crashed into a tree and erupted in flames in Leimert Park, authorities said.
Officials said it was unclear what caused the crash, which was reported at 2:49 a.m. in the 2800 block of Coliseum Street. But there was no evidence that another vehicle was involved, said Sgt. Susie Padilla, of the LAPD’s South Traffic Division. The driver and two passengers were killed. Another passenger was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.
Authorities have not been able to interview the surviving passenger because he was severely injured, Padilla said.
The street was closed for much of the morning, but is expected to reopen soon, Padilla said.
