An 88-year-old man was arrested after he started shooting at Berkeley firefighters and grazed one of them.
Authorities say firefighters were treating the man at his Berkeley home for a medical problem about 1:45 a.m. Monday when he began resisting their efforts.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports the man started firing with a handgun after firefighters called police.
A police spokeswoman says one firefighter was grazed by a bullet when it struck and destroyed a pager-like communication device he was wearing on his belt. He was treated at the scene and did not need to be hospitalized.
The man was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. His name was not released. The medical condition prompting the visit by the firefighters also was not disclosed.
