Members of Turkey’s armed forces attempted a coup on July 15, 2016, in the capital, Ankara, and largest city, Istanbul. The ensuing hours brought explosions and violent clashes and the following days ushered in a crackdown on Turkish institutions like the military, judiciary and schools.
