Readers React: It’s a desert, not a playground

Two interest groups weren’t even allowed to the table to discuss sharing Johnson Valley, a pristine desert landscape near Twentynine Palms prized by both off-road vehicle drivers and the Marine Corps for training. (“Marines, off-roaders compromise over area near Twentynine Palms,” May 9)
I have a cabin there built by my grandparents. I go there to enjoy the stark beauty, quiet solitude, threatened wildlife and magnificent (but rare) wildflower displays.
Off-road traffic and military games are not consistent with my needs or those of the rare and declining species that live there.
