Readers React: It shouldn’t take a study to convince us that screen time is bad for kids

To the editor: Naomi Schafer Riley asserts that screen time is bad for kids and points to a scientific study revealing lower cognitive outcomes as one effect.
But even common sense suggests that kids spending disproportional time submerged in a digital experience can lead to an effacement of reality.
Looking at a beautiful pixelated image of a rose does little to match the actual aroma, hue and touch of the real rose. A kid texting another does not stand up to the multidimensional connection associated with a face-to-face encounter.
I concur — keep kids in touch with the world, but not on a touch screen.
