Chargers reach agreements on rookie contracts for Justin Herbert, Kenneth Murray Jr.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert signed a four-year rookie deal with a fifth-year option Saturday, the contract worth slightly more than $26.5 million, fully guaranteed.
The team also agreed to terms with its other first-round selection, linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr., the No. 23 overall pick out of Oklahoma, on a four-year, $13-million contract.
Taken in April sixth overall, Herbert is expected to open the season behind starter Tyrod Taylor. The Chargers hope Herbert, who played at Oregon, can develop into the team’s future at the position.
His deal reportedly includes a signing bonus of just less than $17 million and a cap hit for the team of $4.8 million.
Murray has a chance to contribute immediately as an athletic playmaker. The Chargers traded two draft picks to move up to get him.
The NFL Players Assn. says its executive committee has agreed to changes to the collective bargaining agreement, and plans to hold a season continue.
The team also announced the signings of running back Joshua Kelley (fourth round, UCLA), wide receiver Joe Reed (fifth round, Virginia), safety Alohi Gilman (sixth round, Notre Dame) and wide receiver K.J. Hill (seventh round, Ohio State).
The team’s rookies reported to camp this week to begin coronavirus testing. The Chargers’ veterans are scheduled to report Tuesday.
