Dodgers reinstate Kenley Jansen from disabled list

Closer Kenley Jansen’s return from the disabled list was moved up a day by the Dodgers, who are looking to compensate for the loss of hard-throwing setup man Pedro Baez.

Jansen was reinstated from the disabled list on Friday before the second game of a four-game series against the Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers cleared a spot for him on the active roster by sending left-hander Daniel Coulombe to triple-A Oklahoma City.

Jansen spent the entire season on the disabled list recovering from a foot operation he had before the start of spring training.

Jansen pitched in six minor league games as part of a rehabilitation assignment, most recently on Wednesday. The Dodgers originally planned to activate him on Saturday, but plans changed when Baez was injured in a loss to the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night.

Jansen said on Thursday night he was unaware of the team’s plans, but declared himself ready to return.

“I feel great,” he said. “My last three games, I felt normal again.”

Jansen saved a career-high 44 games last season and posted a 2.76 earned-run average in 68 games.

Manager Don Mattingly said Jansen will be used in a couple of low-leverage situations before he is reinstated as the team’s closer. Jansen has said he is on board with the plan.
