Baseball: Trinity League experimenting with three-game series
- Share via
We’re going to find out who has the best pitching depth in the Trinity League this season, because the league is experimenting with a new league schedule that will have teams play three-game series against the same opponent each week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Call it the Griffin Canning rule. The former Santa Margarita pitcher got to throw three times against Mater Dei last season. No one will be doing that this season unless they want to pitch three times in a week.
JSerra and Mater Dei will have a three-game series to start the Trinity League on April 13, 15 and 17. It’s almost like college teams having a three-game weekend series.
“It’s going to be fun,” JSerra Coach Brett Kay said.
The league is calling the Monday games a Trinity League tournament, which allows teams to play extra games.
JSerra has 11 varsity pitchers, so that’s why the Lions might be considered the league favorite.
It will be interesting to see how coaches use their No. 1 pitchers and what day to use them.
