Boys’ basketball: Shelton Diggs is new coach at Long Beach Poly

Shelton Diggs, who guided Long Beach Poly to the Southern Section 1AA championship this past season as an interim coach, has been hired as the new head coach, Principal Joe Carlson said. He will replace Sharrief Metoyer.
Metoyer served a one-year suspension, then decided not to return.
Diggs had been Poly’s junior varsity coach when he was asked to fill in for Metoyer last season. Poly won its 20th Southern Section basketball championship.
