There might be some debate about how good City Section basketball is this season (the teams went 0-13 on Wednesday in the state playoffs), but there’s no debate about soccer. The City Section can more than hold its own.
El Camino Real, Sylmar and Canoga Park have made it to championship games of the Southern California Regionals in soccer on Saturday.
El Camino Real will host Chula Vista in Division I at 5 p.m.. Sylmar will face Servite at Yorba Linda in Division II at 4 p.m. Canoga Park will take on host Cathedral in Division III at 5 p.m.
“I think City Section soccer has always been very good,” Canoga Park Coach Jake Gwin said.
His team faces the most formidable challenge. Cathedral is ranked among the top teams in the nation by several polls.
“I think they’re the best team in the nation,” Gwin said.
But Canoga Park has Ezequiel Quijada, who has scored 101 goals in three seasons.
