Football: Chris Richards is no longer coach at Sylmar

The suspension of Sylmar Coach Chris Richards has been changed to a firing.
Richards said Principal James Lee informed him, “We are letting you go. Legally, we do not have to provide you with anything in writing.”
Richards was suspended before the Spartans’ game against Granada Hills Kennedy two weeks ago after a school investigation into an on-campus fight invoving assistant coaches and a player.
He was in his second season as head coach. Assistant John Brazil has taken over running the team.
It’s the latest controversy involving a City Section football coach.
Last season, Derwin Henderson of South East was removed as coach after an alleged hazing incident.
Before this season’s first game, Granada Hills Kennedy Coach Dion Lambert was suspended. Lambert has not returned.
Two games into this season, West Adams lost its coach, Napoleon Banks, who said he resigned because of lack of support from the school administration.
