Football: Eagle Rock among the top teams in City Section Division II

Parity might be the appropriate word to describe the top teams in City Section Division II football. There’s no certain title favorite like last season with San Fernando.
South Gate might generate some support with the return of running back Lavell Thompson, but there are many teams capable of challenging the Rams, and one of them is Eagle Rock.
Eagle Rock has its own top returning running back in junior Michael Soracco, who rushed for 1,705 yards and 23 touchdowns. Senior Nick Jovanelly is a top receiver.
Sylmar, Chatsworth and the host Tigers all could be factors in the title picture.
The good news is that most of the teams are going to play challenging opponents in nonleague games that should provide a clearer picture before league play begins.
