The 80th annual Garfield vs. Roosevelt game is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. at East Los Angeles College.
On Wednesday, players, coaches, administrators and politicians gathered at East L.A. College to offer observations and start to build the excitement for an annual game that features double homecomings and alumni coming back from across the nation.
For the players, there’s nothing like coming through the tunnel and looking up at the seats filled with Garfield blue and Roosevelt red and hearing the crowd cheer.
“It’s an incredible, indescribable feeling,” Garfield quarterback Stevie Williams said.
The game will be shown at 11 p.m. on Friday by TWC SportsNet.
By then, the after-game parties, known as The Fifth Quarter, will be in full gear. And somebody’s going to be very happy or not happy with bragging rights for a year.
Garfield has won four consecutive games. Roosevelt leads in the series, 40-33-6.
