Football: Garfield defensive ends are causing havoc
- Share via
Garfield (9-2) is one win away from making the City Section Division I semifinals, and helping lead the way have been a pair of defensive ends who have a combined 16 1/2 sacks.
Carlos Nunez, a 5-foot-10, 210-pound junior, and Tristen Chavarria, a 6-1, 197-pound senior, could make it difficult for Crenshaw on Friday in a quarterfinal game at Garfield.
Chavarria has 10 sacks on the season. He was the defensive player of the year in the Eastern League. Nunez was the defensive lineman of the year.
“They’re two big monsters,” Coach Lorenzo Hernandez said.
Combined with defensive back Marquis Williams, the Bulldogs’ defense has been a strength all season.
