Long Beach Poly Coach Antonio Pierce has put together a schedule designed to challenge his players, and they came through on Friday night in Arizona with a 13-12 victory over Peoria Centennial.
Down, 6-0, at halftime, Jack Jones caught a 60-yard touchdown pass for a 7-6 Poly lead in the third quarter. Then Centennial went back up, 12-7, early in the fourth quarter on Isaac Steele’s second touchdown run of the night, an 11-yard run.
Then Poly regained the lead with just under seven minutes left on a 12-yard touchdown run by Michael Mauai.
Linebacker Josh Brown, a junior, led Poly’s defense.
It was an important win for Jackrabbits, because they have tough games ahead against Narbonne, Bishop Gorman and De La Salle.
