Football: Long snappers starting to get recognized

The long-underappreciated long snappers are starting to be recognized, and not for bad things. They’ve become important contributors in the success of a football team. Competent snaps on punts, extra points and field goals have helped lead to victory.
Chris Rubio, a private tutor, has come up with a list of top long snappers in Southern California, led by Damien’s Tanner Carew (see video above). Carew, an Oregon commit, also is pretty good at figuring out a Rubik’s Cube.
Other senior long snappers making Rubio’s list: Chris Nieto of Segerstrom; Garrett Frum of Moorpark; Christian Samarzich of Upland; Connor Kelsey of Carpinteria; Elijah Richardson of Trabuco Hills; Colin Duffy of Newport Harbor; Gunnar Skidmore of Simi Valley, and Devin Melendez of La Habra.
Singled out from the class of 2015 are AJ Carty of Servite, Ryan Simmons of Dana Hills, Matt Foley of Temecula Valley and Richard Wilcox of El Dorado. Sophomores John Aloma of Simi Valley, Damon Johnson of Glendora, Andrew Tomlinson of Mission Viejo and Koby Walsh of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame are future standouts.
