Football: No Open Division for Southern Section in 2016
- Share via
The Southern Section has no plans to create an Open Division in football this fall, spokesman Thom Simmons said Friday.
There has been much speculation among coaches that an Open Division would be created to help group the top football teams together regardless of enrollment.
But the Southern Section has its hands full trying to put together a new competitive-equity playoff format that begins this fall, and Simmons said the main priority is making sure it runs smoothly.
An Open Division is likely to receive strong support in the coming years. It has been successful for basketball.
