Football: Trinity League coin flips leave JSerra in fifth place
- Share via
There was a three-way tie for third place in the Trinity League between Servite, Orange Lutheran and JSerra. Coin flips were held, and Servite was given third place, Orange Lutheran fourth and JSerra fifth.
Servite is definitely in the Pac-5 playoffs. Orange Lutheran and JSerra will have to battle Crespi for the two at-large berths.
Here’s the criteria: Head-to-head competition (four points); overall strength of the league (one point); overall win-loss record (one point); strength against common opponents (one point); strength of schedule using overall win-loss record of opponents (two points).
Based on the criteria, the committee could have difficulty separating Orange Lutheran (7-3), JSerra (7-3) and Crespi (4-6). The Trinity teams get a point for overall best league and win-loss record, but Crespi gets two points for better strength of schedule. Common opponents don’t separate anyone. Orange Lutheran and JSerra each defeated Santa Margarita, which lost to Bishop Amat. Crespi defeated Bishop Amat. That appears to leave a tie among the schools using the criteria.
Will the committee take five teams from the Trinity?
A decision will be announced at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
