Football: Unbeaten Lompoc is on the road again in Division 4
- Share via
The Lompoc football team might as well as start playing Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again” on its bus, because the unbeaten team is headed on a 188-mile, three-hour trip to face Corona del Mar on Friday night at Estancia in Costa Mesa in a Southern Section Division 4 semifinal game.
Last week, Lompoc traveled to Etiwanda. Yep, in the Southern Section, just because you’re 12-0, you don’t get home-field advantage. It’s based on coin flips and who got to host the previous week.
But Lompoc should be happy it’s not in the state of Washington, where some of the drives have been more than 300 miles for teams playing each other.
The road trips certainly aren’t bothering standout junior running back Toa Taua, who has rushed for 1,739 yards and 28 touchdowns. Only one opponent has held him to fewer than 100 yards all season.
Corona del Mar will counter with quarterback Chase Garbers, who’s completing 71% of his passes and has 42 touchdowns.
