Girls’ basketball: Alemany concludes incident vs. Chaminade was not intentional

After reviewing video from Thursday night’s girls’ basketball game between Alemany and Chaminade, assistant principal Randy Thompson of Alemany said he has concluded that the incident resulting in a broken nose suffered by Chaminade’s Alyssa Fisher was not intentional and no action will be taken against Cacie Smith.

Chaminade Athletic Director Todd Borowski said, “We disagree.”

Fisher previously attended Alemany, and Chaminade Coach Kelli DiMuro said she believed retaliation was involved.

“Our main concern is a speedy recovery for Alyssa,” Thompson said.

The play happened after a free throw in the fourth quarter. According to Thompson, Smith was tryng to box out Fisher, got tangled up and Fisher got hit in the face. The game was halted briefly at Alemany so Fisher could receive medical treatment, with fans becoming unruly.

No foul was called on the play but officials ejected Smith, who will have to sit out Alemany’s next game. Alemany won, 68-54.
